Week 4 power rankings

1. Saskatchewan Roughriders (36 points)

Saskatchewan’s 2-0 start looks even stronger because both wins came against West Division opponents. Trevor Harris looks like a man on a mission, not only to lead the Roughriders back to the top but to put himself in the Most Outstanding Player conversation by season’s end.

The next test is whether they can keep that early-season success going as they begin a three-game East Division swing this week against the Toronto Argonauts.

2. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (32 points)

It is still early, but Hamilton’s Week 6 matchup with Saskatchewan already feels like it could be a preview of what is to come in November.

Outside of the second-half collapse in Week 1 against Montréal, the Tiger-Cats have been one of the league’s most complete teams through three weeks.

3. Montréal Alouettes (26 points)

It took overtime, but Davis Alexander has finally lost a regular season start. Montréal remains a strong team and should have a chance to get back on track this week against Ottawa, but anything short of a convincing win will raise questions about where the Alouettes stand moving forward.

4. Edmonton Elks (24 points)

Justin Rankin must be an early favourite for Most Outstanding Player. He has been the engine of Edmonton’s offence and the biggest reason the Elks have opened the season 2-0.

That said, neither win has been especially dominant. Edmonton now has a chance to start 3-0 and send a statement to the rest of the league with a strong performance against the struggling Blue Bombers in Week 4.

5. Toronto Argonauts (18 points)

Even with Chad Kelly doing everything in his power to give Ottawa a chance, Toronto still walked away with a 20-point win.

We still do not know exactly what this Argonauts team is capable of, but a matchup against Saskatchewan, depleted secondary or not, should be a meaningful measuring stick.

6. Calgary Stampeders (17 points)

If there is one word to describe Calgary’s start to the season, it is disappointment.

The Stampeders have had chances to start 2-0, but they have not been able to put together a full 60-minute game.

7. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (14 points)

Father Time catches everyone, and it may be catching up to Zach Collaros.

With Dru Brown back in the picture, the question becomes how long Collaros’ leash is if Winnipeg cannot turn things around quickly.

8. BC Lions (9 points)

Defence, health, bad luck? take your pick.

Nathan Rourke can play at a high level, but BC’s problems are piling up faster than one quarterback can solve them.

9. Ottawa REDBLACKS (4 points)

Ottawa’s offence continues to perform a Houdini act instead of playing football. Three offensive touchdowns through two games is not going to put the REDBLACKS in position to win many games.

The season could get away from Ottawa quickly if the offence cannot find a way to produce.
